Weekend Update 12/26/09

Well, it has been yet another eventful week in the Beiser household.
sorry for the failure to update this blog every week, but its hectic and crazy here.

The kids really enjoyed Chanukah. Shaya lit his own Menorah and said the brachos beautifully, especially by the end. Two days of vacation from school were big fun for Mommy with lots of family bonding. We did manage to take one day that week to take the boys for professional pictures which came out well, BH, although I was exhausted afterward!

(see here for photos, : http://www.adinamarkowitzphotography.com/ username: beiser2; password: smile)

When they returned to school they had much Chanukah fun, returning daily with projects and dreidels and lots of nosh. We also spent a nice evening with Uncle Reuben, Aunt Tehila and the kids where we joined them for their candle lighting and had dinner and playing afterward.

The highlight of the past week was of course, the boys return to regular schedule of school. YB was home pretty much the whole week, as was sick with... pneumonia! that's right, doesn't that sound dramatic?

It wasn't so dramatic actually and he is back in gan today (on 2 antibiotics). But it was a tough week, lots of crying at night, etc.

We (read: I) also took MM to a fancy expensive ENT at Hadassah (read: schlep) who told us to put him on a low-dose antibiotic for a few months, or take out his tonsils. This is pretty much exactly what the not-fancy, free ENT told us as well. But it sounded more professional from the fancy one! We are also looking into a chinese medicine option which is supposed to have about a 50% success rate.

I also finally heard back from my dissertation advisor who said she will try to review my paper over the break. Nice of her.

Cute kid stuff:

As the siren went off before Shabbos:

Bin: Listen Shaya, the siren is going off
Shaya: Abba, its not going off, its going on!

As the boys spot the newborn toys (rattles etc) put away in the closet:

MM: What are those toys for?
Me: those are for little tiny babies, but we don't need them now because we dont' have a little tiny baby
Shaya: Well, that's because you aren't davening hard enough!

At lunch:

Shaya: Mommy, I have a very good idea.
Me: Really, what's that?
Shaya: every day we should bake a cake and then you won't have to bake one on erev shabbos
(the joy of a child who already knows the value of the freezer!)

As I was feeding YB in the kitchen -
Shaya from the living room: "Mommmmyy...."
YB: "Commming...."

YB's expanding vocabulary:
"coat", "bye bye", "stroller" "paci" "ketchup" "abba" "hello" "thank you"

SO CUTE!!

Have a great week!!

Please comment!

We are considering going on strike - we work so hard to update the blog and no one ever posts comments! It just takes a minute...c'mon you can do it! Don't you have anything to say?!

Weekend Update - December 7th

Hi Everyone -

Sorry for the delay of blog updates, you could say its been hectic around here.

We had a nice, fairly quiet Shabbos. We had two seminary girls over for Shabbos lunch (neighborhood shabbaton). Its amazing how quiet the boys get when we have company. We love it.

The boys are getting used to joining us at the seuda and going to bed after the soup. Shabbos afternoon has become particularly short, but we manage to get to the park anyway.

In other news, MM had yet another case of strep throat and an apptmt at another specialist ENT right after Chanukah. He was also the Abba shel Shabbat this week and thoroughly enjoyed wearing his shabbos clothes to school and giving out treats.

Shaya had a hearing test, and is a bit improved from last time falling into the "low end of normal" range. He enjoyed wearing the headphones. Aleph-beis is still a challenge, but he seems to be doing alright.

YB has adjusted well to his new gan. He even brings home "projects" which we find so cute. He is having an extremely cute stage right now, which we are enjoying - he's starting to imitate words, play with big-boy toys and just is adorable overall. Its a good thing actually, since he is also going through an extremely annoying trouble-maker stage - emptying out pots from the cabinets (found one in the stroller basket on the way to gan), turning over containers of clics and toys, spilling out containers of milk, etc. The cute stage helps to make the trouble-maker stage more bearable.

Binyamin has begun staying in yeshiva for lunch to be "more productive" with his day. We know this is just a cover for "avoiding kvetchy children at lunchtime", but that's okay, we understand. Luckily, he is provided hot fleishig lunch in yeshiva and no longer needs to bring himself pb & j sandwiches!

Not much else to report - oh, I went to the n'shei melave malka this week and won a free snood in their raffle! Yay me, i never win anything! this was very exciting.

Here are some of our cute recent quotes from the kids:
Shaya - "this is the best treat I never had!"
- "do you want medium, MM? Medium is also small and also big"
- "on Friday you don't have to wait downstairs for our tender to come, because you have a lot to do"
- In the bathroom at the hearing test center, Shaya noticed that there were pumps of liquid soap sticking out of the counters. He wanted to know where the soap came from. he then proceeded to climb underneath the counter to find the soap. He happily reported that there are big containers of soap under each one, two are full and one is half full. It was cute.
Moshe Meir - protesting taking his strep medicine: "But I don't have a fever anymore. When is Chanukah? I'll take it after Chanukah"

K - hope to post some video soon. As part of his troublemaker stage, YB lost the card to my digital camera, so I'm a bit low on pictures right now!

Love,
Us
